Getting to one of our favourite locations just before Brexit (Oops! - did we really mention that word) for a day trip is a must for anyone wanting to push towards the next level.

The river Canche is about one hour's drive south of Calais and is ideal for anyone who can paddle in a straight line for 50m (some experience of moving water is desirable but not essential). This is a great opportunity to experience the fun of paddling abroad without the long drive down to the Alps. The river is basically flat water but always has a current on it. It does however, have numerous weirs and canoe passes which liven things up a little. It is ideal for kayakers who want to experience grade 1 and 2 conditions. Like any river, the difficulty varies according to weather and river conditions.

We are looking to travel out via Eurotunnel at 6.50am (checking in at around 6am in Folkestone). This would allow us to get on the water around 10am, paddling for a couple of hours before stopping for some lunch. After lunch, there will be another 2-hour paddle. This will allow us to get off the water and on our way by mid to late afternoon. If we're running on schedule, we'll aim to stop for some food before our return crossing in the evening. You should bring a packed breakfast and some lunch to take on the water with you (don't forget your dry bags!).

Potentially, we will be joined by some paddlers from other clubs on this trip, so there is an opportunity to meet with new paddling buddies.

This will be a full day away departing really early and you will need to have a Passport. We would also recommend an EHIC card in the unlikely event that you need any medical attention whilst in France.

This trip will be organised by Tony Hogben and on the water Sammy Deans will lead.

As this is a trip outside of the UK boundary, any Junior members will need to be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian.

The 9th of March is still Winter, so it goes without saying, it will probably be cold! Please ensure you have appropriate clothing - a good cag is a must!

If you need equipment, please use the equipment booking form.

Please note that bookings are non-refundable as once booked we cannot get a refund on the channel crossing fees.
