This is a planned training session for the up and coming PPA award for the 19th March
Details of the PPA are below
This is ideal if you would like to build on your skills to become really proficient in sheltered water. Your British Canoeing SUP Sheltered Water Personal Performance Award will give you an understanding of how to plan and paddle an enjoyable and safe trip on a Stand Up Paddleboard.
We will spend a full day on the water together covering both theory and practical elements of paddleboarding, to include paddling locations, preparing for the water, environmental considerations, safety and rescue techniques, SUP skills and manoeuvres, dealing with mishaps and reflective learning. Using these skills, your award will give you the ability to organise and carry out an enjoyable and safe trip on the water up to 200 metres from shore, up to force 3 in winds.
As this is a British Canoe award, there is a fee to be paid and is reflected in the registration type. If you are a BC member then it is a little cheaper
What to bring
The majority of the day will be spent on, and in, the water so please do make sure that you will be warm, even after a few hours in and out of the water!
Bring your usual board but we’ll have use of others too.
Bring warm bankside clothing to change into after the wet session, and over lunch.
Your personal paddling clothing, suitable for plenty of submersion, including buoyancy aid. Please do make sure you have plenty of warm layers, and either a dry suit or a good wetsuit, appropriate to the time of year and the water temperature.
Lunch and drinks for throughout the day, particularly a big flask of something warm to drink, and plenty of high energy snacks.
Pen and paper if you like to take notes.
Requirements
This award is designed for those looking to progress their paddling, so we ask that you are confident on your board and are happy to be out on your board for a couple of hours at a time, if needed.
