Intro to moving water

To compliment the trip to Dartmoor trip, we are running an introduction to moving water session at Hart Lake .

The aim of the session will be to introduce everyone to breaking into and out of an eddy, ferry gliding and a little surfing.

We meet at the bridge on Hartlake road and then paddle down to to the canoe chute, this will take about 15/20 minutes and will serve as a good warm up.

The session is open to all club members who can preform a self rescue**, there is a high possibility of getting wet and swimming but that is all part of the fun, esp. if you are SUP'ing.

Organiser's: Malcolm Oates

LocationHart Lake

Parking -  Parking is along a main road so please bear this in mind when getting changed and unloading kayaks. Also please try and squeeze as close to each other. The is road side parking on either side of the bridge.

Equipment - Bring your own or Borrow Club Kit

Toilets - None so it's a nature wee

Changing Facilities - Alfresco / Road side

* We are now using WHAT3WORD when giving out meet up locations; it provides a more precis location for more remote sites that we use. If you do not already have it on your phone, we strongly advise downloading the app, its free so no reason not to have it. It is also used by emergency services throughout the southeast and can be given as a location reference when needing their services. (

** A self-rescue is generally an eskimo roll/rescue or swimming to the bank with your boat and paddle, retrieving it from the water and getting back in unassisted. This can be taught in the skills session.
