Hi Members

I hope you can join me for a Peer Sea Kayak Paddle on Sunday 19th February.  We will meet 09:00 just outside Winchelsea, paddle on the River Brede to the sea lock where we do a 340m portage onto the River Rother. We then paddle towards Rye Bay and along the coast to Winchelsea Beach This is 1.4 miles away from where we started. The total paddling distance is about 7.5 miles.

It is open to members who can bring along a sea kayak or cross over kayak, have paddled similar distance and have performed successful rescues, outside swimming pool conditions. Please be aware that the put in point is at the base of a steep bank with a small flat launch area at its base. If you have any doubts regarding yours suitability please discuss this with me beforehand. You will need to make your own arrangement for collecting any club equipment you may need.

The 09:00 meet up time is critical as we have to be on the River Rother before the level drops and exposes the mud banks. If sea conditions are unfavourable we will terminate the paddle at the RNLI station at Rye, which is 1 mile short of the entrance into Rye Bay.

It is likely to be cold so make sure you are appropriately dressed and I would suggest you bring hot drinks,  food, a change of clothing and kayak trolley, if you have one.

I will email a more detailed plan once you have log on for the trip.
