The conditions on the Thames with Tidal Flow, Wind, Currents, Boat Traffic and clapotis off the walls can be tough (it could also be a calm day, 😀 is rare though).

Skill Level: 3* Skill level (you don't necessarily have to be a 3*/SKA, just paddle at the level).

This is a Led paddle on the Tidal Thames for Sea Kayak Award Level Paddlers in Sea Kayaks only due strong flows, tides and boat traffic on the Thames.

Thames Tidal Paddle date confirmed Saturday 10th May - £61.20pp. (9am to 5pm).

The cost covers launch fees at Shadwell Boat Centre (which has toilets/changing facilities), and fees for two local Advanced Sea Kayak Leadere to guide us for the day. Parking is free on surrounding roads. Paddling the Thames in central requires special knowledge, the coaches bring that knowledge. We need to bring the skills.

Goal for day: Paddle from Shadwell area through city centre and back. There aren't many places to land in the centre during high water - this means it is quite committing paddle all the way to Battersea (St Mary's Church) - about 2 hours each way. Achieving this full goal is dependent on the group, and the conditions we get on the day.

What makes it committing is the time in the boat without landing + the bouncy water at hight water made up of current + traffic + clapotis off the walls, don't under estimate this, consider this Moderate to Advanced Water (under the guidance of two experienced coaches/leaders).

There are toilets and changing facilities.

Bring a packed lunch and food for the day, your sea kayak and paddling kit, a personal first aid kit, self rescue kit (if you need stuff).

3*/Sea Kayak Award level paddling required for this activity. You will need the stamina to paddle for at least 2hrs in moderate water without landing.

If you are concerned that you are not at the standard, there is plenty of times to sort those skills and stamina between now and May.

Type of Event:  Led Paddle by 2 x Advanced Sea Kayak Leaders from Sixknots.  Limited to 8 paddlers due to class of water.

Organiser: Di Phillips

Date: Saturday 10th May

Approx. Location: Shadwell, free parking in local streets, launch at Shadwell Boat Centre. Car share recommended to minimise car parking spaces needed.

Payment: £61.30pp, payable at time of registering.  This includes the card payment fees.
